“In this magical place, where gastronomy, history, regional culture, and art in all its forms, one can immerse oneself in the art of living and the gentle Mediterranean lifestyle.” Château l'Hospitalet is nestled in the heart of the protected Clape massif, an ancient link in the Pyrenees mountain range, a Phoenician and then Roman island, and the cradle of viticulture in France. From the 13th century onwards, the Hospices of Narbonne established themselves on the Clape, which had been connected to the mainland by the alluvial deposits of the Aude River since the late Middle Ages. Documents from 1561 attest to its mission of welcoming and sharing with pilgrims. This vocation of hospitality inspired Gérard Bertrand, who has made L'Hospitalet the beating heart of his work promoting the Mediterranean art of living since acquiring the property in 2002. The Château now boasts a 5-star hotel, a gourmet restaurant, a wine cellar for tasting and sales, an art space, and a rich offering of sensory experiences centered around wine. Music was the missing piece: in 2004, the château hosted the first "Jazz à l'Hospitalet" festival, which has since become an international benchmark. La Clape has retained its limestone soils from its Pyrenean heritage. L'Hospitalet benefits from one of the sunniest climates in France, and the sun's radiance gives the wines a unique luminous balance. Biodynamic farming allows the full expression of this resonance between the environment and the terroir, between the richness of the fruit and the tension of the structure. The wines exhibit a freshness and salinity characteristic of limestone terroirs.
