particularly dry year, 2020 began with a cold, dry winter, leading to late budbreak, especially during the first half of October. Spring and summer were marked by high temperatures, but also by drought. These conditions favored rapid ripening of the vines and an early harvest that ended three to four weeks earlier than in recent years. Despite this extreme climate, and thanks to the dedication of the teams, the 2020 vintage reveals a fruity structure, a fresh expression, and a rare tension. 98 points James Suckling 96 points Robert Parker TASTING NOTES APPEARANCE: This wine has an intense ruby color. NOSE: The pure and expressive nose blends fruity aromas (blackberry, blackcurrant, wild strawberry) and floral notes (violet) with hints of ink, vanilla, and dark chocolate. With aeration, a gentle minerality emerges. PALATE: The elegant and generous palate reveals an appealing balance, vivacity, and structure. Full, fine tannins linger into a persistent, smooth finish. The best of two cultures. Made from a blend of three classic Bordeaux grape varieties – predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon – and a Chilean variety, Almaviva is the fruit of a happy encounter between two cultures. Cabernet Sauvignon (68%), Carménère (24%), Cabernet Franc (6%), Petit Verdot (2%). Chile offers its land, climate, and vineyards, while France contributes its technical winemaking expertise and traditions. The result is a wine of exceptional elegance and complexity. Its launch was a huge boost for the development of Chilean wines in international markets.
