Description:
- The guava fruit is yellowish with a thick skin and pinkish flesh, very aromatic. It is often made into juice or sorbet.
- The most widely cultivated species for export, Psidium guajava, forms a tree with a dense crown, generally reaching 10 meters in height.
Vegetation:
- The guava tree can reach 9 to 10 meters in height, with a dense crown and a slightly gnarled trunk. Its leaves are evergreen, dark green, with prominent yellow veins and a whitish pubescent underside.
- The guava tree flowers mainly in spring, with solitary or clustered white flowers. The fruits are pear-shaped to round, reaching up to 10 cm in diameter.
Qualities:
- The guava tree is cold-hardy down to -2°C. It can also be grown in a pot, producing fruit the same size as a tree planted in the ground from the age of 2 to 40. However, flowering and fruiting can be unpredictable in temperate regions.
